This class is all about European holiday cookies - learn about making the true classics for your holiday table

Date & Time: Online Class via Zoom  - Sunday, Dec. 04, 2022 from 2 PM to 4:30PM
Where: livestream from Brot Bakehouse School and Kitchen, Fairfax, VT
Costs & Level: $45 per person - all levels

Come "virtually" to the wintry Bakehouse in Vermont this holiday season and join us from the warmth of your home for a demo and bake-along class devoted to the traditions of European holiday Plätzchen - the special, delicate cookies that fill every holiday plate in Europe.

Thomas and Heike will also show you how to make traditional gift boxes to give to loved ones, filled with these sweet specialties.

We end the class with an introduction to the tradition of Advents-Kaffeetrinken (the German coffee & tea ceremony with baked goods, typically celebrated during the holiday season) and a Q&A where you can ask all about the traditions, the recipes, and techniques.

The class is online via zoom and you can bake along some recipes during class - or just watch the demos and be inspired for your holiday table. All recipes will be available before the class.

Some things we'll be making and demoing in class:

Zimtsterne, Vanille Kipferl, Linzer Cookies, Rumkugels (rum balls) - and a bakery surprise.

We will also show a classic "Adventstafel" (holiday baked goods and other specialties around the candle-lid table) - with ideas how to re-create this at home.

Join us online for a celebration of the rich history and traditions of the holiday season, old-world style!

About Thomas:

Thomas was born and raised in Germany where cakes, pastries and cookies were home-baked regularly in his family, so he developed a strong passion for traditional German cakes & cookies early on.

After moving to New York in 1990 for his TV editing job, he started taking various pastry & baking classes at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) and later at King Arthur Baking in Norwich, Vermont, while expanding the repertoire and techniques trough stages at some of New York’s best bakeries, like Bouchon Bakery, Ceci Cela Patisserie, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, and Runner & Stone, Brooklyn.

Thomas has been teaching pastry classes in NYC and assisting Heike Meyer at Brotbakery classes in Fairfax, Vermont for many years.
We are thrilled to welcome him back to the Bakehouse to teach about his true passion: German style cakes, tarts and cookies for special occasions, particularly for the holiday seasons.
